The Resolution contains a decision by the Security Council to establish of a UN Supervision Mission in the Syrian Arab Republic (UNSMIS) for or an initial period of 90 days under the command of a Chief Military Observer, with an initial deployment of up to 300 unarmed military observers as well as civilian component to be able to accomplish its mandate.

The mandate of the aforementioned Mission shall be to monitor a cessation of armed violence in all its forms by all parties and to monitor and support the full implementation of the Envoy’s six-point proposal.

The resolution further calls on the Syrian government to ensure the effective operation of the mission and on all the parties to guarantee the safety of the mission personnel.
