This article describes the crime and the circumstances that led to the prosecution and conviction of Mohannad Droubi, by a Swedish court in 2015. He was sentenced to five years imprisonment for torture committed against an unarmed person in Syria in the context of the ongoing war there. Droubi became a permanent resident of Sweden in 2013. He was arrested after a video of the crime he committed was seen on the internet by Swedish police. This is the first prosecution in Sweden in relation to Syrian war crimes.
