This recent Human Rights Council resolution was adopted by a majority of 29 votes to 1, with 17 abstentions, the only member state voting against adoption being the United States.

The resolution strongly condemns the failure of Israel to end its prolonged occupation of the Occupied Palestinian Territory in accordance with international law. It also condemns “the widespread, systematic and gross violations of international human rights and fundamental freedoms arising from the Israeli military operations carried out in the Occupied Palestinian Territory”. The Resolution demands that Israel ‘immediately and completely cease all of its settlement activities in all of the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and in the occupied Syrian Golan’ and that it comply fully with its legal obligations, as mentioned in the advisory opinion rendered of 2004 (see Advisory Opinion on this page). Finally the Resolution calls upon Israel to prohibit and eradicate policies that are discriminatory and disproportionate in their treatment of the Palestinian population.
